“My Future Profession”

Being a lawyer is regarded as one of the best professions in many countries. The legal system affects nearly every aspect of our society, from buying a home to crossing the street. Lawyers form the backbone of this system, linking it to society in numerous ways. They hold positions of great responsibility and are obligated to adhere to a strict code of ethics. This career is my choice, too.

Lawyers perform four main functions in the course of their job. First, lawyers counsel. Second, attorneys necessarily spend a significant portion of their time negotiating, since the vast majority of cases settle out of court. Third, lawyers draft documents. Fourth, they litigate. At the University, we are preparing to perform all these functions of our future work.

But not only professional competences make a good lawyer. Lawyers have agreed upon six basic elements of professionalism. They are: ethics, competence combined with independence, professional wisdom and continuing learning, civility and obligations to the justice system. I am positive I will develop all these traits in my personality, too.

The main purpose of my work will be to assist the Prosecutor in his work, as well as in monitoring compliance with the law. As an assistant Prosecutor, I will perform such functions as: preparing statements of claim to the court, sending documents to the court, checking cases for corruption, legal advice to citizens.

In order to perform these functions, I must know the legislation of the Russian Federation; be able to quickly analyze information and draw conclusions: be resistant to stressful situations, sociable and polite, maintain independence and honesty.

My most important duty will be to prepare procedural acts that are under the supervision of the Prosecutor. If the Prosecutor is absent for a good reason, then I will be able to perform some of my duties, for example, to appear in court and make decisions on a specific case.

The profession of an assistant Prosecutor is quite complex but very important. We will monitor compliance with the law, help people solve their legal problems, and work for the benefit of society.
