There is an important distinction between slender consonants and broad consonants. A slender consonant is one which is beside an e or i. a broad consonant is one beside an a, o or u. for most consonants the slender pronunciation is different from the broad one. |

The addition of `h` to many consonants changes the sound of them. This is technically known as `aspiration` |

In inter – vocalic position is a voiced flap [d] e.g. city [sidi:] |
[t] broad as th in thin but with tongue on back of teeth. Tà [thaw]=am, is, are. [t] slender is sharp [t], almost a [tsh] e.g. tine [tshinnuh]=fire |
