*The nasalization of vowels, when they are preceded or followed by a nasal consonant (in such words as take, small name etc) it` s also called an American twang. It’s incidental and needn`t be marked in phonemic transcription. * Slight rise of the in tongue position during the pronunciation of tense vowels leads to a diphthongal quality of tense vowels which contrast to a monophthongal quality of lax vowels. |
