ANNUAL STATISTICAL

SUPPLEMENT for 2002

AND

USERS’ GUIDE

2003 Edition

11 August 2003

This Statistical Supplement has been prepared to provide a longer historical perspective for the oil demand, supply, trade, stocks, prices and refining data than is normally included in the monthly Oil Market Report. Readers requiring further details on individual countries are referred to the following IEA publications, for OECD countries: Oil Information, and for Non-OECD countries: Energy Statistics of Non-OECD Countries and

Energy Balances of Non-OECD Countries. Quarterly data are available in

Quarterly Statistics, Oil, Gas, Coal and Electricity. Data in this Supplement reflect the best available information by the end of July for years up to and including 2002. Thus, there may be some slight differences from data appearing in subsequent Oil Market Reports as a result of revisions to previous years’ data received after July. To assist readers in understanding the technical terms, definitions, data sources and general approach used in preparing the Report, we have once again included the

Users’ Guide to the IEA Oil Market Report, updated where appropriate.

The IEA Monthly Oil Data Service

A Unique Source of Official Statistical Data on the Global Oil Market

The Most Comprehensive and Up-to-Date Information Available on the Global Oil Market

The IEA Monthly Oil Data Service provides a detailed database of historical and projected information used in preparing the monthly IEA's Oil Market Report (OMR). This service comprises three packages, available separately or combined, as a subscription on the Internet. It is available on the day of official release of the OMR. A state- of-the art software allows you to access and manipulate data in a very user-friendly environment.

Please note that when you subscribe to the Monthly Oil Data Service, for each package purchased you also receive a complete historical dataset which starts in January 1984 (for most of the databases) and runs up to the start of the current time series. Packages include:

1.Supply, Demand, Balances and Stocks:

Supply: monthly supply in individual OECD countries with aggregates shown for the three OECD regions, North America, Europe and Pacific as well as monthly supply for Non-OECD countries, by country; from 1993 onwards, including 6-18 month forecasts. Data are reported in barrels.

Demand: monthly, quarterly and annual demand data for ten products in individual OECD countries, and aggregated by OECD region; quarterly and annual demand for Non-OECD countries. Both datasets start 1993, including 6-18 month forecasts. Data are reported in barrels.

Balances: information is provided in the form of monthly supply and demand balances for individual OECD countries, presenting indigenous production, imports, exports, stock changes, refinery intake and output, international marine bunkers and deliveries for inland consumption for 17 products. A similar dataset for natural gas is also provided. Time period: from 1995 onwards. Data are reported in metric tons.

Stocks: comprehensive monthly coverage of industry and government-controlled stock data in individual OECD countries and for the three regions, for crude oil, gasoline, middle distillates and fuel oil; from 1995 onwards.

2.Trade: Monthly information on OECD member countries' imports from 77 origins and exports to 66 destinations for 17 products. Included are: crude oil, NGL, motor gasoline, gas/diesel oil, residual fuel oil and 12 other products. Time period: from 1995 onwards. Data for oil and oil products are reported in metric tons.

3.Field-by-Field Supply: Monthly, quarterly and annual production, starting 1993 and including the forecast period covered in the OMR (6-18 months) and annual forecasts for over 700 fields in 90 OECD and Non-OECD countries. Data are reported in barrels.

We have a demo service available for clients interested in purchasing the MODS. If you would like to have access or require further information, please send an e-mail to: mos@iea.org.
