Introduction

Hobbies are an important part of human life. Many people have hobbies. They make our life more interesting. A hobby is what people like to do when they have free time. Everyone chooses a hobby according to his character and taste. Some people are fond of music, others like to read books. Some people like to collect stamps, coins or badges, others prefer gardening or hiking or taking photographs. Some people like to cook, others like to knitter sew. Generally speaking, a hobby is a matter of taste.

In our age of information, there are many ways to communicate and limitless possibilities. For a long time interests clubs formed so as not to get lost among other people. This phenomenon has become its own form on the Internet. It received a new impetus to development. Therefore, even now, we need to know about the various hobbies to make it easier to find interlocutors liking.

The object of study of this research is to residents of the UK and USA cultures.

The subject of research is a hobby, their types and features.

The purpose – to determine the significance and importance in the life of the British and American interests .

Problem can be formulated as follows:

  1. analyze the literature on the subject;

2. identify the etymology of the word “hobby”;

3. consider the classification of a hobby;

4. explore and identify traditional hobby of residents of the UK and the USA;

5. explore and identify unusual hobby of residents of the UK and the USA;

6. identify the significance and importance in the life.

Methods:

1. theoretical analysis of the literature;

2. synthesis

3. systematic

In the course of work, we used the Internet resources and newspaper publications.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT HOBBIES

Etymology of the word «hobby»

A hobby is a regular activity done for pleasure - typically during leisure - e.g., collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports. Continual participation in a hobby can provide substantial skill and knowledge about it.

Anyone who does an activity solely for fun is called an «amateur» (from French for «lover of») or «hobbyist»; whereas anyone who does an activity for a reward is a «professional».

Electronic dictionary «Lingvo» gives the definition of the word «hobby»:

  1. An activity pursued in spare time for pleasure or relaxation.

2. A special interest or activity that you do in your time off.

The term «hobby» is derived from the expression «to ride one's hobby-horse» which means «to follow a favorite pastime» (spend free time). Hobby Horse is a wooden horse, which was done in order to ride it, as like a real (sometimes called the «Hobby»).
