Rendering of the Article Why Children Turn Violent

The theme of the article Cowley Why Children Turn Violent written by Geoffrey that is being rendered is juvenile violence. The message is that tragedy can be averted if parents and teachers pay more attention to what

The author starts off by trying to understand the underlying reasons for children’s violence. One of them is kids who grow up surrounded by violence – on the street, in the home, on the tube, in electronic games – become less sensitive to it. The other reason is when children have ready access to firearms the odds of a tragedy rise. But the author holds the belief that the problem is so complex there isn’t a single cause or a single remedy to it.

Geoffrey Cowley speaks of incidences of violence among those under 17 over the past two years, notes some and tells the readers that, like adult crime, it’s actually decreasing.

The author compares juvenile homicide of the 1990s with that of 1980s and concludes that it is twice is as common today. Most perpetrators are males and many seem driven by feelings of powerlessness.

Geoffrey Cowley’s another thought is about urban poverty and that it fosters powerlessness: the rage that goes with it and adds that the juvenile murder rate among blacks, who are more likely to be poor, is typically nine times higher than the rate among whites. He cites Princeton criminologist John Dijulio Jr. who believes the real curse of life in the inner city is “growing up without loving, capable, responsible adults who teach you right from wrong” or, worse yet, “growing up surrounded by delinquent and criminal adults ... [in settings] where self-respecting young men literally aspire to get away with murder.”

The author thinks that parental involvement is really important and lack of it places any child at risk – especially if the television is running all day, especially if the television is running all day. No one pretends that kids are doomed to re-enact or simulate every atrocity they see on TV or in videogames.

Geoffrey Cowley goes ahead to speak about the second reason. Had the guns been not as available in the United States it would probably be more difficult for kids to carry out the bizarre revenge fantasies they have nurtured.

The author concludes the article by suggesting that many kids could be diverted from killing if parents and teachers simply paid more attention to what children say. So, straight talk may be a simple step toward solving a complex problem.

In my book, the problem is naturally essential and it is one more sharp blade into the fragile heart of the notion of sense of security. Though the bleeding can still intensify and things can get from bad to worse we have to hope for the best. But get ready for the worst.
