Trouble with special order

Many problems in business are unforeseen. It’s impossible to forecast and prevent all troubles. And that’s why the effectiveness of managers determines not as absence of problems, but as the ability of managers to solve ones.

There are some cases when order may be special for firm:

  1. it maybe large order;

  2. it maybe important customer, who always buys only our goods, or may be going to place large order in future;

  3. it maybe penalty clause in our contract, and firm may lose money;

  4. this order maybe a part of a larger delivery, and in this case delaying the part of the whole contract may stop our customer further dealing with us (may dissolve an agreement);

  5. maybe firm promotes new goods and failing the delivery of several contracts may fail all promotion work of the product;

  6. maybe our firm is new itself, and we try to create a good reputation for firm;

  7. maybe firm needs a money very much and in this case every order is special for us.

There are three types of causes why firm can overdue or fail the delivery:

  1. Fail of transport agent – transport firm (ex. shipping, tracking, or air or railway) may fail delivery by technical, organization or by some unlawful acts causes; In such case manager should:

    1. Get information about the term of problem solving by the trans. agent;

    2. If the term is unacceptable he should try to find another agent;

    3. If another agent wasn’t founded, try to organize the delivery by the firm itself.

  2. Fail of production of the firm – technical problems with equipment, labor strike or org. problems;

    1. Try to solve certain problem;

    2. Try to buy missing components for ex. from other producer.

  3. Fail of suppliers – some problems of their suppliers or production or their transport agent.

    1. Try to buy from another supplier or replace the components of the firm’s product.
