Straightforward Intermediate Progress Test 4

Speaking Test Teacher’s Notes

Part 1

Ask four or five of the following questions.

  • Do you enjoy playing any sports? What?

  • How often do you play sports?

  • What’s your favourite sport to play or watch?

  • Can you describe how to play your favourite sport?

  • What’s the most popular sport in your country?

  • What’s the last sporting event you went to? Did you enjoy it? What happened there?

  • Are there any big sporting events or competitions in your country?

  • Have you ever taken part in a sponsored event to raise money for charity?

  • Would you want to do a sponsored event? What would you do?

Ask four or five of the following questions.

  • How important is money to you?

  • How much is enough?

  • Do you ever worry about money? When? Why?

  • What do you do when you worry about money?

  • What do you spend most of your money on? Why?

  • If you won lots of money in a competition, what would you do with it?

  • Do you save any money? What do you save it for?

  • What’s your attitude to money?

  • Would you ever give money as a present? When? Why?

  • Have you ever been in debt? What did you do about it?

You have one minute to think about what you want to say. You can make notes.

Read the situation below and think of at least three advantages and three disadvantages of the proposals. Discuss your ideas with your partner(s) and see if you agree. Finally, decide on what should be done.

Situation

A company has been losing equipment from its main office. It is quite clear that things are being stolen, but not who is stealing them. There are two proposals for dealing with this situation. The first is to install CCTV cameras throughout the office (but not in the toilets). This would cost around £10,000. The second is for all employees to be searched by security guards when they leave the office. This would be a cheaper option.
