HOTEL INFORMATION

This unit features two parts of conversation covering the enquiry about room availability and directions.

Before you listen answer the questions:

  • Do you often stay in hotels, guest houses, bed and breakfasts (B&Bs), or hostels?

  • What do you look for when choosing where to stay?

Recording 1

Voc

Option (n) – an option is smth that you can choose to do in preference to one or more alternatives

Category (n) – if people or things are divided into categories, they are divided into groups in such a way that the members of each group are similar to each other in some way.

Penthouse suite (n) – a penthouse or penthouse apartment or suite is a luxurious flat or set of rooms at the top of a tall building.

Adjoin (v) – if one room, place or object adjoins another, they are next to each other

A potential guest from Los Angeles, phones the Tabard Inn in Washington, DC, to enquire about room availability

  1. Read the general comprehension questions below, then play the recording once and answer the questions

In this part of the conversation between Jeremy and the receptionist, Jeremy asks about the best ways to get to the hotel from the airport.

  1. Play the recording once. Are these statements true or false? If the statement is false, write down the correct answer.
