Evaluating Voice Therapy

therapeutic process is a complex interaction between patient and clini cian. The benefits of treatment can be measured in a number of ways. This situation results in an area rich with potential for further research. The purpose of this book is to facilitate understanding of the principles behind effectiveness research. In doing so, the book has highlighted the complexity of this area of study. It was intended as an inspiration for clin icians to become active in clinical effectiveness research – not to daunt people into avoiding it. We should remember that, compared with many areas of medical and paramedical intervention, we are further down the line than we think. We are mature enough as a profession to be critically introspective, and to want to address the needs of the profession over the coming years. In this way, we ensure a continuing improvement in the treatment that we provide to our patients with voice disorders.
