What is Saguaro

National Park?

It is home to the nation’s largest cactus (saguaro) and many other cacti (barrel, cholla, prickly pear).

It is located near Tucson, Arizona.

It is a part of the United States National Park System.

Overview

It is divided into two sections (districts). The total area is 91,442 acres.

It is named after the saguaro.

It is elevated to National Park status on October 14, 1994.

The Rincon Mountain District

−ranges from an elevation of 2,180 ft to 4,687 ft

−contains 2 biotic communities, desert scrub, and desert grassland

−average annual precipitation is ~10.27 in

−common wildlife include the coyote, Gambel’s quail, and desert tortoise

Districts

The Tucson Mountain

−ranges from an elevation of 2,670 ft to 8,666 ft −contains 6 biotic communities

−desert scrub, desert grassland, oak woodland, pine- oak woodland, pine forest and mixed conifer forest

−average annual precipitation is ~12.30 in

−black bear, Mexican spotted owl, Arizona mountain king snake, and white-tailed deer
