Activity 1. REVISION: PRESENT, PRESENT PERFECT AND PAST.

Choose the correct form of the verbs.

Model: A. Paul: What have you done/did you do last night?

Mary: Well, I have hoped/had been hoping to go out, but I had had/ had too much work.

1. Paul: Would you and Sam like to play volleyball on Saturday?

Mary: Oh, yes please. We haven’t played/didn’t play for weeks.

2. Paul: Look at all those people!

Mary: What’s going/what goes?

3. Paul: Have you heard/did you hear the news? There’s been a fire at the cinema.

Mary: Really? How has it started/did it start?

Paul: I don’t know.

4. Paul: Where did you use to stay/were you staying when you went to Ireland? With your family?

Mary: Yes. Or in a guesthouse.

5. Paul: Laura’s/’re the youngest member of our band.

Mary: Yes. She’s left/left school a month ago.

6. Paul: Sarah sometimes feels/is sometimes feeling hungry in the middle of the day because she doesn’t have/don’t have much for breakfast.

7. Mary: What did you do/did you last weekend? Anything exciting?

8. Mary: Is Ben training/does Ben train to be a lawyer?

Paul: Yes. He’s/’re in his second year.

Activity 2. THE INFINITIVE, PARTICIPLE I & PARTICIPLE II, GERUND.

Translate the following sentences from Russian into English.

1. Отец заставляет Тома бросить курить.

- Father forces Tom to give up smoking

2. Текст был слишком трудный, чтобы он мог перевести его без словаря.

- The text was too much difficult that he could translating its without the dictionary

3. Известно, что у него своё мнение по этому вопросу.

- It is known that he has his thinking on this question

4. Я никогда не слышал, как он обсуждает вопросы искусства.

- I never heard how he discusses an art question

5. Сообщается, что много зданий повреждено пожаром.

9. Он преуспел в выполнении этой работы? Тогда стоит похвалить его за это.

- Does he has succeeded in performance of this work? Then it is necessary to praise him for it

10. Вместо того, чтобы лечь спать, она стала читать книгу. Несмотря на сонливость, она продолжала читать её, пока не закончила чтение.

- Instead of going to bed, she began to read a book. Despite drowsiness, she continued to read it, while hasn't finished reading

11. Факты, упомянутые в этом докладе, не были проверены.

- The facts mentioned in this report, haven't been checked up.

12. Не зная грамматику, они допустили много ошибок в тексте.

- Without knowing grammar, they have allowed many mistakes in the text.

13. Работая, я всегда слушаю музыку.

- Working, I always listen to music.

14. Вы видели ту женщину, которая кричала на своих детей?

- Did you see that woman who shouted at her children?

15. Пока мы переходили мост, мы увидели Ника, разговаривающего с каким-то стариком.

- While we passed the bridge, we have seen Nick talking with some old man.

Activity 3. THE INFINITIVE, PARTICIPLE I/II or GERUND.

Open the brackets and use the proper Infinitive form. Translate the sentences into Russian.

Choose the proper form of Participle. Translate the sentences into Russian.
