Alexander Graham Bell was born in Edinburgh in 1847 «eighteen-fourty-seven». His father was the inventor of a «visible speech» system. It helped deaf persons to pronounce words they could not hear. Alexander began working at improving his father’s invention. Bell started thinking about sending tones by telegraph.

He wanted invented pribor, which would send musical tones electrically from one place to another. So he had to give all his energy and time to one thing only – knowledge of electricity. Very time Bell and his friend Watson worked at testing and experimenting with the telephone. Later they decided try a new kind of transmitter, which was set in Bell’s bedroom. Watson was sitting in the laboratory, he put his ear to the receiver and suddenly he heard Bell’s voice and speech. So in the 1876 «eighteen-seventysix» AGB had invented the telephone.

Later there were telephones all over the world. In nineteen-fifteen was opened the first transcontinental telephone line. At one moment AGB sat in New York, while Watson was listening him from San-Francisco. Bell was sitting in the big hall. Everyone expected to hear serious speech, but AGB repeated the words which he said at the inventing of telephone “Mr. Watson, come here. I want you” Watson agreed, but it would take him a week.
