* FINANCE DEMO *
**************************


This demo program consists of several files which are stored in your
KAPPA\SAMPLES\FINANCE directory:

- README.TXT : This demo script
- FINANCE.BAT : A DOS procedure which starts the demo from the DOS
command line
- FINANCE.KAL : The KAPPA application in KAL format
- Several files with .WK1 and .DOC suffixes which are loaded in the course
of the demo.


FINANCE Demo Script:
********************

Note: The following script will drive you throughout the demo; It is
fairly long, so you may want to print it beforehand.

1. Type "finance" from the DOS prompt in your KAPPA\SAMPLES\FINANCE
directory. This will load WINDOWS 3.0, KAPPA and FINANCE.BIN.

2. Open the KAPPA Session window and choose Start from the CONTROL menu.
This will execute the function Start (defined in the application)
which lays out correctly the windows and loads one company file.

3. A window appears with a row of buttons across the top and text
displayed within a border below. The buttons are labeled as follows:

Analyze - Select a new company to analyze.
Explain - Start to customize explanation interface.
Graph - Graph raw data.
Advice - Give high-level advice about a company.
Report - Generate Reports ( this item is not implemented).
Quit - Quit the interface.

Examine the high-level analysis in the text at the button of the interface.

4. Press the Explain Button.

5. An interface appears with 2 windows at the top. The top window contains
buttons over the top of the name of the current selected indicator name.
Below this window is the Financial Indicator Hierarchy window. Selecting
an item in the Financial Indicator Hierarchy with the mouse causes the
current selected indicator name to change. The selection of a button
causes and action to be taken using the current selected indicator as
the focus of the action. The buttons in the top window are labelled
as follows:

Justification - Justify a piece of data associated with
the selected indicator.
Graph Data - Graph the raw data for the selected indicator.
Show Data - Show the complete tabular data for the selected
indicator.
Definition - Show the definition for the selected indicator.
Print Hierarchy - Print the hierarchy to a printer. This action
is not implemented.
Exit Interface - Return to the main menu.

6. Choose Liquidity from the hierarchy.

7. Press the Justification button.

8. A menu appears with the following choices for type of information
to justify:

Evaluation - Justify the assessment of the selected indicator for
a specific year.
Trend - Justify the trend of the selected indicator.
Prediction - Justify the prediction of next year's assessment for
the selected indicator.
Cancel - Return to the main menu without making a choice.

9. Choose Evaluation from the menu.

10. Choose the most recent year from the menu of fiscal years which appear.

11. Examine the explanation and then choose the Exit Interface button to
return to the previous interface.
Note: the Print Information button does not do anything..

12. Repeat steps 7 and 8 and choose Trend in step 9. Then repeat step 11.

13. Repeat steps 7 and 8 and choose Prediction in step 9. Then repeat step 11.

14. Repeat steps 7-13 after choosing DaysToSellInventory from the hierarchy.
OR follow the reasoning process down a branch of the hierarchy for steps
7-11 (i.e. select Activity and do steps 7-11 and then select
DaysToSellInventory and do steps 7-11).

15. Select DaysToSellInventory from the hierarchy.

16. Press the Graph Data button.

17. Select Ratio Data as the type of graph from the menu.
Note: Status Summary is not implemented.

18. A graph appears. Examine the graph and press Exit Graph when done.
Note: The Print Graph button is not implemented.

19. Press the Show Data button.

20. Examine the data and select the Exit Interface button when done.
Note: The Print Information button is not implemented.

21. Repeat steps 19-20 after selecting Liquidity from the hierarchy.
Notice the different format from the previous data. This is due to
the fact that the leaves of the hierarchy contain raw data
(as well as inferred-data) and the inner-nodes of the hierarchy
contain only inferred data.

22. Press the Definition Button.

23. Examine the definition and select Exit Interface when done.
Note: The Print Information button is not implemented.

24. Browse the interface some more if desired.

25. Press the Exit Interface Button to return to the main menu.

26. Select the Graph button.

27. Select Ratio Data, as the type of graph from the menu.
Note: The Status Summary option is not implemented.

28. Select Current Ratio from the menu of ratios.

29. Examine the graph and choose Exit Graph to return to the main menu.
Note: The Print Graph button is not implemented.

30. Press the Advice button.

31. A text window (which can be empty depending upon the company selected)
will appear. Position the scroll bar to the top of the window.

32. Examine the advice and then press the Exit Interface button when done.

33. To examine another company, press the Analyze button and repeat steps
3-33 as desired.
Choose a company name (*) from the File Selection Hierarchy window.
Company names are instances in this hierarchy. Press the Select File
button.
Note: Be patient, a four minute wait follows the selection of a company.

* Note that the actual choice of company will affect the demo.
The main variable is the amount of advice generated. A number of
companies have a large amount of advice generated but some have none.


34. Press the Quit button to exit the interface.
This will leave you in Kappa-PC with the application loaded.

Note: DO NOT SAVE !!
