  2. Read the underlined words and guess the general parts of the majority of job descriptions.

  3. Discuss the title. Is it a suitable one? Suggest your own variants.

  4. Write down the key words and phrases that comprise the logical basis of the text.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Staff Pharmacist

(The Board may amend this Position Description from time to time to reflect the needs of its business)

Department: Pharmacy

Location: Grey Hospital and Community Pharmacies on the West Coast

PURPOSE

Assist with the provision of a quality Coast-wide pharmaceutical service that meets legislative, contractual and professional obligations within Grey Base Hospital and the community pharmacies on the west coast.

OBJECTIVES

The primary objectives of the position are:

1. Pharmaceutical Service:

1.1 Provide ward pharmacy services to wards at Grey Base Hospital.

1.2 To ensure all inpatient and outpatient prescriptions are dispensed in accordance with legal requirements and departmental policies.

1.3 Provide Coast-wide education/information on medicines and pharmacy services to clients/patients, health professionals and the general public.

2. Health and Safety:

2.1 To comply with the requirements of the pharmacy’s Occupational Health and Safety Plan.

2.2 To report possible hazards immediately.

3. Personal/Professional Development:

3.1 Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of pharmaceutical developments, nationally and internationally.

3.2 Participate in ongoing educational activities for professional pharmacists.

LEGAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND WORK ETHICS

  1. Responsibility must be taken for the whole process of diagnosis, prescribing and follow-up, including an awareness of limitations to expertise.

  2. A pharmacist maintains professional competence. A pharmacist has a duty to maintain knowledge and abilities as new medications, devices and technologies become available and as health information advances.

  3. A pharmacist acts with honesty and integrity in professional relationships. A pharmacist avoids discriminatory practices, behavior or work conditions that impair professional judgment, and actions that compromise dedication to the best interests of patients.

  4. A pharmacist respects the values and abilities of colleagues and other health professionals.

  5. A pharmacist seeks justice in the distribution of health resources. When health resources are allocated, a pharmacist is fair and equitable, balancing the needs of patients and society.

  6. A pharmacist respects the covenantal relationship between the patient and pharmacist.
