Text 1

Read and translate the text into Russian. Answer the questions below. Practise good reading of the text.

My working day usually begins at 6 o’clock sharp. I’m not an early riser, that’s why it’s very difficult for me to get out of bed, especially in winter. I sometimes stay in bed for 5-10 minutes but then I have to get up. I switch on my recorder and do my morning exercises. Then I go to the bathroom and have a shower, clean my teeth and shave. After that I go to my bedroom to get dressed. Usually my mother makes breakfast for me. But when she is away on business I make breakfast myself.

I leave home at 8.15 and go to the university. It takes me 15 minutes to get there by bus, but I hate public transport. You usually have to wait for a long time and buses are often overcrowded in the morning. So I prefer walking. I’ve got an mp3 player and usually listen to music or texts and dialogues in English while walking.

My classes begin at 9 sharp. We usually have 3 classes a day and we study five days a week. At lectures we listen to the professors and take notes. At seminars we make reports and take part in discussions. At the English lessons we read, translate and retell texts, learn new words, do lots of grammar and vocabulary exercises, learn dialogues by heart. We also try to speak English in class. The teacher says we must study hard to speak good English. Sometimes we have a break for lunch. My friends and I usually go to the university canteen or to a café near the university building. I usually eat a couple of sandwiches and a cup of coffee for lunch.

I get home at around 3 in the afternoon. Sometimes I have to stay at the university library for an hour or so. At home I eat my dinner, have a rest for half an hour and then I do my homework. In the evening I enjoy reading an English book or surf the Internet chatting with my friends or browsing different web-sites. It is so exciting, and I often have a late night.

On Saturday I help my mother about the house. I do the shopping and sometimes I do the washing. At weekends I often have a lie-in. I go out, but I also invite friends.
