Выражает длительное действие, совершающееся в настоящий момент, но не обязательно в момент речи (временные ситуации, ограниченный период времени).
I’m readingan interesting book at the moment. I will lend it to you when I have finish it.
Catherine wants to work in Italy, so she is learning Italian.
today/this week/this evening
You are working hard today.
Yes, I have a lot to do.
-Is Susan working this week.
- No, she is on holiday.

Употребляется в эмоциональных высказываниях, когда мы говорим о часто повторяющихся действиях, которые происходят чаще, чем обычно и вызывают негативные эмоции.
I am always losing my keys.
He is always leaving the lights on.
John is never satisfied. He is always complaining.
6. Будущее запланированное действие.
I am leaving for Moscow. – I am going to Moscow.
At 10 I am meeting her at the station.
We are having dinner together.
I am starting a job next week.
НО be going to (am, is, are) – собираться, запланированное действие, но отдаленные планы.
Иногда что-то в ситуации указывает на то, что действие произойдет неизбежно.
Look at that clouds. It is going to rain.
Present Simple or Present Continuous?
В английском языке есть глаголы, которые не используются в Continuous, но обозначают действие, которое происходит в данный момент.

Present Perfect
Present Perfectупотребляется для выражения законченного действия, но результат этого действия непосредственно связан с настоящим, причём в этом случае для нас важно совершение этого действия.
I have broken my pencil! I can not write the dictation. |

Already – уже
Don’t forget to post the letter. – I have already posted it.
Yet – еще (в отрицательных и вопросительных предложениях)
She has not read the article yet.
Has Mr. Smith left his house yet?
Также: ever - всегда, never, often, always, so far – давно, lately – позднее, recently
today, this week, this day, this morning, this evening – периоды времени не закончились
It is the first (second) timesomething has happened
It is the first time he has driven the car. He has not driven the car before.
Present Perfect Continious
Мы используем Present Perfect Continuous, чтобы спросить или сообщить о том, как долго что-то длилось. К настоящему моменту действие (ситуация), возникшая в прошлом, только что закончилась (или еще продолжается).
I have been writing for more than an hour.
We’ve been staying here nearly a week.
You have been making excuses for him all your life.
How long, for, since
She has been having English lessons since she was five.
