Субъектная конструкция с инфинитивом ( the subjective-with the-infinitive construction)

The professor is said to know several languages.	Говорят, профессор знает несколько языков.
They seem to know little about this phenomenon.	По-видимому, они мало знают об этом явлении.
He is likely to be late.	Похоже, он опаздывает.
Our efforts proved to be useless.	Оказалось, что все наши усилия бесполезны.

Примечание:

1) Глаголы to believe, to consider, to hold, to think, to assume, to suppose, употребляемые в субъектной конструкции в пассивной форме, переводятся как«считать», «полагать, « думать».

2) Глаголы, употребляемые в конструкции в активной форме: to seem, to appear - казаться, to prove, to turn out – оказываться, to happen -случайно сделать что-то, оказываться.

3) Выражения, употребляемые в конструкции: to be likely - вероятно, to be sure/to be certain – наверняка, to be unlikely – вряд ли.
