Туризм – это огромный бизнес. Больше 2500 миллионов туристов (что составляет приблизительно половину населения мира) покидают свой дом на 4-5 дней в своей стране и еще 355 миллионов путешествуют за рубеж. Непосредственные расходы людей в отрасли интернационального туризма составляют более чем $150000 миллионов долларов в год и отвечают за 5 процентов всего мирового экспорта.
Туризм – одна из быстро растущих отраслей в мире и это потенциал роста остаётся огромным. Только один из пятидесяти людей мира пересекает границу своей страны каждый год. Страны, обычно посещаемые туристами, ограничены. Две трети прибывают в Европу и примерно одна треть в Северную Америку. Мало кто отправляется в другие места. Количество международных туристов из развивающихся стран не велико. Когда уровень жизни возрастёт, у людей будет больше возможности путешествовать в другие страны. Если бы только 5 % китайского населения могло отправиться за рубеж, это выбросило бы на туристический рынок 50 миллионов туристов.
