  1. Was Mr. Gregg a better host than Mrs. Thayer? What is your idea of hospitality?

Yes, of course Mr. Gregg is a better host than Mrs. Thayer. There are several reasons for it. First of all, Gregg stuck to his promises: he kept his name incognito, didn’t let anybody know he was his guest and didn’t talk of art with his because Lautisse asked him not to.

The second reason Is that Gregg really made *Liberty Hall* for Lautisse in his house, he was allowed to do anything he liked. Moreover, he wanted to entertain his guest, but he wasn’t imposing his point of view to him. While driving from the station he asked him if he wanted to do something in particular like playing croquet or going to swim or for a walk but Lautisse refused and said that he wanted only to sit and relax. Gregg understood him and let him relax.

When Gregg was painting the fence Lautisse asked him if he could paint the fence himself and Gregg agreed, though the fence meant much to him and he wanted to do it himself. But if the host wanted to do smth, it was a law for him to let him do it.

So, we can say, that Gregg was hospitable and his hospitality wasn’t imposing, Lautisse liked his stay at their place and even invited them to come to him and have a dinner some day.

As for me, my idea of hospitality is similar to Gregg’s-to entertain the guest if he wants me to do it or leave him alone if it’s his wish.

  1. What made Gregg think that the world was mad?

When Lautisee left their house the story about his visit was in every paper in 10 days. After these photographers and journalists came to the Greggs’ house and asked questions about Lautisse’s stay at their place, they wanted every detail. Mostly they paid attention to the fence he had painted-they took photos of it, of the brushes and of the paint buckets.

In several days some men came to their house and looked at the fence, they said it was painted magnificently and wonderfully and they were ready to pay thousands of dollars to buy it, although Gregg thought that a mule could take a brush in his mouth and paint not worse than Lautisse did. He was unable to understand them , he thought they were drunk or crazy. He stared at them in amazement.

  1. What is your idea of a perfect guest and a perfect host?

To my mind-a perfect guest is a responsible person, who is never late and who comes if he has promised. Moreover, a perfect guest should respect some rules of a family or a person where he or she has a visit. A perfect guest shouldn’t forget about etiquette and manners during the visit and he or she shouldn’t stay for a very long time. A Guest shouldn’t be too picky and try not to get irritated if a host has done something wrong, for example cooked a meal that doesn’t agree with him. And I Think a perfect guest after the visit should offer the hosts to visit his house too.

And a perfect host to my mind is a person who really likes entertaining and takes pleasure of it. A perfect host should invite only people who know each other or have similar interests at one time, because if people won’t find a theme to discuss, the evening might become a failure. A perfect host should think of what quests should eat and drink, what films they are going to watch or music to listen. A perfect host shouldn’t impose his point of view or make his or her guests do something, complete freedom should be given to them.
