7. Heating systems

The goal of heating systems is to create a constant comfortable room temperature during the entire heating period. Heating systems produce hot water for space heating and, in many systems, for hot water services (commonly known as domestic hot water or d.h.w.). A building’s heating system encompasses the areas of heat generation, heat distribution and heat transfer. Heat production today is a very complex part of heating technology. Conventional boilers are fired with gas, oil, coal or wood or, alternatively, heat production can be provided via solar energy or from district heating utilities.

Comfort controls

The label «Comfort Control» summarises all systems that create and automatically maintain comfortable room environments, which support the health and efficiency of people in residential buildings, offices, schools, hospitals, theatres, shopping centers, etc. If the temperature of the environment is too low, people give up too much heat, they shiver, and they feel cold and un-comfortable. If the temperature of the surroundings is too high, then bodily heat cannot be given up fast enough. People begin to perspire and feel uncomfortable in this situation too.

8. Building Details

The new 5 floor Fleet Command HQ building will house ±735 people. Some unique features of the building include:

  • Three large courtyards, two of which are enclosed and landscaped.

  • High levels of security including X-ray equipment and CCTV.

  • Backup generator and Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), everything in the building can function if the main power supply is disrupted.

  • S

prinkler system with an integrated network to monitor the location and spread of any possible fires.

All plant is controlled and monitored with a Synco 700 advanced climate control system. A PC with ACS Colour graphics is utilised by the Maintenance Staff to monitor all variables in the 28 systems. Temperatures and Static pressures can be set by staff with ‘Service level’ password. Deviation in temperature, Supply fan failure and Dirty filter alarms are among the fault conditions monitored by ACS Alarm.

9. Criteria for expulsion from investigation: patients with the following characteristics will not be included in investigation:

  • Patients starting new course of background treatment.

  • Patient medical history of which contains drugs dependence and medicines misuse

  • Positive allergy medical history or hyper sensibility or intolerance to one of medicines being under investigation.

  • Participation in the other clinical investigation during 30 days period prior to present investigation

  • Any conditions which, on investigator’s opinion, will cause patient’s inability to complete investigation or conditions increasing risk level for patient or preventing his/her optimal participation in investigation.

Treatment: Medicine being the subject of investigation: “Mesalazine 1g + Nifedipine 10mg” combination in 50 ml solution, administered rectally twice a day for 7 (14) days. Medicine will be manufactured and packed by “Doppel Farmaceutici” for “Bracco S.p.A.”. Each center will receive initial lot of medicine based on initially planned patients’ number. Further on centers will be procured with medicine based on actual number of patients recruited.

10. A new method was developed for the analysis of pesticide residues in tobacco. The objective was to significantly increase the number of samples that can be processed by the laboratory and to enable the extension of the current coverage to additional pesticides. A new analytical approach was therefore defined based on two main axes, the automation of the sample preparation and the selectivity of the analyte detection using tandem mass spectrometry. This latter aspect reduces the stringency of the requirements placed on the clean-up of the extracts and on the chromatographic resolution when less selective detectors are used. The extraction of the analytes from the matrix is performed using the pressurized liquid extraction technique. Tobacco samples are extracted at elevated temperature and pressure (100 °C and 100 atm; 1 atm=101,325 Pa) using acetone as an extraction solvent. The resulting extract is then concentrated using a Vortex evaporator. Three different solid-phase extraction (SPE) procedures, adjusted to the chemical properties of the different active ingredients to be measured, are applied to the concentrated extract, thus leading to three extract fractions.

11. In order to check that the system is working within the specified survey tolerances, RTDGPS crews shall tie to the reference marks forming part of the control framework wherever convenient and at the start and the end of each day’s work. The location of the control point will be recorded, in order to be post-processed if necessary and submitted to company supervisor.

During laying-out of geophysical locations if a non typical situation occurs (loss of battery, major failure, etc.), the surveyor will first report to company supervisor, then will re-survey the last three locations laid out. When recommencing observations on a line following an overnight stop, three line points will be re-observed and consistency with previous observations verified to the required accuracy.

If, at any time, the real time DGPS horizontal and vertical position differs from the control point co-ordinates by more than the nominal accuracy of the system at a 95% level, company supervisor must be notified and he shall decide whether surveying may continue.

12. This generating set has been designed as a complete package to provide superior performance and reliability.

Each generating set is provided with a Rating Label generally affixed to the alternator housing or control panel. This label contains the information needed to identify the generating set and its operating characteristics. This information includes, but is not limited to, the model number, serial number, output characteristics such as voltage, phase and frequency, output rating in kVA and kW and the rating type. For reference, this information is repeated on the Technical Data Sheet provided with this manual. The model and serial numbers uniquely identify the generating set.

The gas engine powering the generating set has been chosen for its reliability. The engine is of the 4 stroke spark ignition type and is fitted with all accessories to provide a reliable power supply.

The engine electrical system is negative ground/earth and either 12 or 24 volts DC depending on the size of the set.

The output electrical power is normally produced by a screen protected and drip-proof, self-exciting, self-regulating, brushless alternator fine tuned to the output of this generating set.

13. With the advent of novel methods in spectroscopy, microscopy, molecular biology, an increasing body of detailed data on function, mechanisms and composition of biological, biochemical and chemical systems is becoming available. In contrast, data on the dynamics of biological systems remain scant. The establishment of systems biology as a new branch of biology reflects the fact that the dynamics are more and more often taken into account.

Chemical and electrochemical systems are ideal models for studying the laws of oscillations, chaos and pattern formation since the parameters affecting the exotic dynamics can be easily controlled. Another advantage of working with chemical systems is that the ‘laws of motion’ responsible for the dynamics are easy to define in forms of differential equations that can then be ‘routinely’ analyzed with exact mathematical or numerical methods.

Complex biological systems (e.g., tissues) are built of large numbers of cells, and thus the global and/or local coupling of the units plays an essential role in generating the collective dynamics. Therefore, the nonlinear dynamics of coupled chemical systems should be further investigated in order to learn about general laws governing the emergence of coherent dynamics as well as to develop algorithms for achieving controlled (synchronized) behaviour in both chemical and biological model systems.
