At a Chemist’s

As you know on receiving a prescription from a doctor or on following a home treatment all of us need medicines which are ordered or bought at a chemist’s.

There are usually two departments in a large chemist’s. At the chemist’s department one can have medicine immediately, other drugs have to be ordered at the prescription department.

At any chemist’s all the drugs are kept in drug cabinets. Every small bottle, a tube or a box of medicine has a label on it. White labels indicate drugs for internal use, yellow ones indicate drugs for external use and blue ones indicate drugs used for injections. The dose to be taken and the directions for the administration are also indicated on a label. Indicating the dose and the name of any medicine is necessary for chemists, nurses, doctors and patients themselves. It prevents confusing different remedies, some of which are poisonous. Their over dosage may cause unfavorable reactions and sometimes even death.

At a chemist’s one can buy different drugs for intramuscular and intravenous injections, for oral administration and for external use.

Before using the medicine the patient must know well that he is taking the proper drug and in the necessary dosage.

Keep – fit programme.

Nowadays all people understand that it is better to be strong and healthy than to be weak and ill. Atherosclerosis is one of the diseases of the cardiovascular system which is due to many causes. There is a number of factors which may determine its development. Atherosclerosis of the blood vessels results from metabolic disturbances and particularly from disturbances of cholesterol exchange. The doctor must prevent its appearance beginning preventive measures and treatment as early as possible.

To be well enough a person should follow some recommendations. First of all it is necessary to get up every morning and to go to bed every evening exactly at one and the same time. Sound sleep not less than 7-8 hours every night will have a good effect on our skin and besides it enables the nerve cells to rest.

Englishmen say: “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”.

Secondly, all of us are fond of some sport not only because we understand that one must take exercises to keep fit but also because it is great fun. Morning exercises can do us a lot of good, but if we have the opportunity of going to the fitness club it will be great.

If we want to be healthy we should give up smoking and keep off alcohol. Smoking affects unfavorably the walls of the blood vessels and can result in their spasm that is why patients suffering from atherosclerosis must not smoke.

Vitamins are widely used in the treatment of atherosclerosis because some of them improve the metabolic processes and others dilate the vessels, particularly the peripheral ones.

Our diet should be well balanced and the food we are eating must contain a lot of fruit and vegetables. Remember the English proverb: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. We must also remember that most of us live in large polluted cities. If we got more fresh air we would look healthier and more attractive. A brisk walk is one of the best things we can do for our circulation and appearance. Walking slowly is useful but a quick pace gets more oxygen into our lungs. So don’t just go for a pleasant street, try and find an area that doesn’t have much pollution and get moving. And try to understand well: “Health is the best wealth”.
