17 TOPIC. “Male and female approach to management. What personal qualities should an ideal manager possess?”

Management is tasks. Management is discipline. But management is also people”- this is the phrase which should be as an example for both sexes, males and females.

But, there are at least several identities, which can point that your boss is male or female in real. I would like to tell a few words about worldwide practice and statistical surveys.

Women are more efficient and trustworthy, have a better understanding of their workforce and are more generous with their praise. Personnel believes women have a more modern outlook on their profession and are more open minded and considerate. The world famous magazine “Management Today” says that after years of having to adopt a masculine identity and hide their emotions and natural behavior in the workplace, women became role models for managers!

Also women are the best communicators in comparing with men. They can find the easiest and more suitable way to deal with stuff. And they also can gain the best results in negotiations, because they more effective and display greater flexibility.

Woman directors are still relatively uncommon in older age groups, but among young directors the proportion is growing.

When women are critical they are much personal, while men say what they think directly.

And female managers can use time more efficiently, because juggling commitments is a familiar practice for women with home and a family. Female managers also appear to make good financial sense for penny-pinching companies.

To sum it up, it’s necessary to say that business needs to wake up to the fact that so- called feminine skills are vital for attracting and keeping the right people. In the past women who dealt in business were encourage to be more manly, but nowadays this situation has been changed to the opposite side!

It was only one opinion and it concerned the “female managers”, but in the business area the major part is the male bosses. So, some people are still convinced that the best managers are men. Let see, are these people right or not and can we agree with them.

A statistics says that a quarter of secretaries expressed a preference for a male boss. And only a small part of the survived answered that they would prefer female.

Men can behave manly in the situation when it’s necessary to sign a contracts in spite of any personal attitudes even if this contract can destroy someone’s plans. Also they can show the best logical solution of any problems which can occur in business area. And, in comparing with women they seem to be more decisive.

But nowadays, the “masculine” behavior gives the place to feminine. And for men it’s necessary to take under consideration such business characters which are more common for women as: flexibility, diplomatic, rationality, sociality, inspiration, creativity….

“If men want to be a successful at work they must behave more like women” – this is the modern tendency.

But in spite of any female or male characters, an ideal manager has to know the certain rules and ways of dealing with people. I think that all bosses should be: creative (to be the origin of an inspiration and as an example for the stuff), decisive (to react quickly and right to the best solution), diplomatic (to be able to convince other people to sign contracts and deal with their company), flexible (the attempt to find the best dealing with every employee), organized (be an example for others), responsible (to have the ability to keep his/her words), sociable (the most important character!) and, the least, but not last thing is to be supportive (there are a lot of youngsters, who work in the company and who need the support during the first time).
