Foreign International Sources about Firefighters

A firefighter (also known as a fireman) is a rescuer extensively trained in firefighting, primarily to extinguish hazardous fires that threaten property and civilian or natural populations, and to rescue people from dangerous situations, like collapsed or burning buildings or crashed vehicles.

The goals of firefighting are (in order of priority): As such, the skills required for safe operations are regularly practiced during training evaluations throughout a firefighter's career. In the United States, the preeminent fire training and standards organization is the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Often initial firefighting skills are taught during a local, regional, or state approved fire academy. Depending on the requirements of a department, additional skills and certifications such as technical rescue and Para-medicine may also be taught at this time.

We seem to have lot of firefighting organizations, and chances are, you're a member or aware of more than a few. Pretty much every state has an Association, often divided between paid and volunteer, then we have national associations, often divided by paid or volunteer and much more. Then we have the many other associations, organizations and councils, all representing some but not all, and that is just in the USA.

It's time to bring the organizations together, and we hope to be the start of that goal. The International Firefighter Organizations (IFO) with the help of efforts like Firefighter Fellowship, United Firefighters, Firefighter Brotherhood and many others will work together towards the common goal of our unity.

International Firefighter Organizations is a grassroots campaign to bring together ALL firefighters, departments, associations and organizations worldwide. As an all inclusive organization we can work together towards common goals and interests. Sharing our experiences, needs and hopes for the future, we will also include all Junior and retired firefighters, plus our family, friends and fans. The IFO is not associated with IFFA and International Firefighter Organizations will include all volunteer and career firefighters that wish to be a part of this campaign and effort to bring the Brotherhood together for camaraderie, support and unity.

Firefighter Fellowship is a grassroots effort to help promote and unite firefighters around the world. Membership is FREE, just sign up for newsletters, get a T-shirt, send a donation or follow Facebook. Open to ALL firefighters, PLUS their family, friends and fans, together, we can help our fire departments.

The United Firefighters Union of Australia was officially registered on August 1, 1990, the culmination of a protracted battle which spanned more than 20 years.

The UFUA was originally registered in 1964 by the Deputy Industrial Registrar of the Conciliation and Arbitration Commission. The Chief Officers of the Country Fire Authority, the Country Fire Authority of Victoria, the Metropolitan Fire Brigades Boards of Melbourne, Brisbane, Launceston, Hobart, Adelaide and Western Australia and the Board of Fire Commissioners of New South Wales were united in their resistance to a national union. In the 1970 Full Court decision, which came down against the union, Chief Justice Barwick ruled that the UFUA could not properly be registered as a union.
