4b

Provide examples Watch the episode from the interview and fill the corresponding column in the chart below

36

4c

Look through your lists of expressing attitude towards facts and events means and analyse them:

What attitude to the issue do they express?

What attitude to the partner’s words do they express? What are they probably meant to conceal or emphasise?

Now focus on the guest’s answer. Choose some and practice in summarizing them giving the main idea of the guest’s turn.

For example:

37

Masrour Barzani: We knew about their intention. We had good information about… about ISIS when they moved down south, to the southern part of Mosul. We communicated with the Iraqi Government at that time. We warned that the ISIS is intending to enter Mosul. Unfortunately the Baghdad was not very responsive and they didn’t want that cooperation at that time. Until they took Mosul. When they took Mosul and 5 divisions of the Iraqi Army left their posts, left their guns and that is really a surprising point for us.

Masrour Barzani:

Kurdish Intelligence and Security Service were aware of ISIS plan to capture Mosul. We informed the Iraqi Government but they didn’t show any interest in cooperation. When the ISIS plan came true we were and still are astonished why the Iraqi Army left their posts and guns.
