Passive Voice (Страдательный залог)
Мы знаем, как образуются времена Present, Past и Future группы Indefinite в форме Active (действительный залог), а теперь перейдем к форме Рassive (страдательный залог).
1. Passive образуется при помощи вспомогательного глагола bе, за которым идет Participle II (причастие страдательного залога) смыслового глагола:
Глагол be изменяется, так как он является вспомогательным: он выражает вpeмя, число, лицо и обычно не переводится. Participle II смыслового глагола не изменяется, но всегда переводится, причем в том времени, в котором стоит глагол bе, например:
am asked— Present Indefinite Passive— (меня) спрашивают
was written — Past Indefinite Passive —(был) написан
will be invited — Future Indefinite Passive — (тебя, вас, его, ее, их, нас) пригласят.
2. Форма Passive показывает, что подлежащее пассивно и не само выполняет действие, а на него переходит действие сказуемого, имеющего пассивную форму, сравните:
I invite them (Active). — Я (сама) приглашаю их
I аm invited (Passive). — Меня приглашают.
Не asked a question (Active). — Он (сам) задал вопрос.
Не was asked a question (Passive).— Ему задали вопрос.

Обратите внимание на то, что подлежащее (I, he, she) в английском предложении со сказуемым в страдательном залоге не является подлежащим в русском предложении, а сказуемое в русском переводе имеет активную форму (меня приглашают, мне задали, ей пришлют).
Сказуемое в форме Passive может также соответствовать русскому глаголу в страдательном залоге с окончанием -ся или -сь и иногда краткому прилагательному, например:
Answers are given in the written form — Ответы даются в письменном виде.
The new buildings are built of bricks. - Эти новые здания построены из кирпича
3) Подлежащее, стоящее перед сказуемым в форме Passive, не совершает действия этого сказуемого, его совершает кто-то (или что-то) другой, который чаще всего не указывается. Но если необходимо обратить внимание на то, кем или чем осуществляется действие, тогда существительное (одушевленное или неодушевленное) или местоимение (в объектном падеже) вводится предлогом bу после сказуемого в страдательном залоге, например:
The letter was written by my brother.
The work will be done by our friends.
Если действие совершается с помощью какого-то предмета, тогда употребляется предлог with, например:
Не was shot with a revolver. —Он был убит из револьвера.
Образование формы Passive сказуемых с модальным глаголом
В сказуемых, в состав которых входят модальные глаголы или их заменители, форму страдательного залога берет на себя инфинитив, стоящий после модального глагола. Пассивная форма инфинитива образуется по общему правилу: глагол to be (в нужной форме) и Participle II смыслового глагола, а глагол be как вспомогательный берет на себя признак инфинитива — частицу to, например:
to take — to be taken
to see — to bе seen.
She may be asked many questions. — Ей могут задать много вопросов.
Не should be invited — Его следует пригласить.
