Ukraine
is washed by the Black Sea and the Sea
of Azov. The Black Sea has an area of 423 000 sq.
km. Its depth in some places reaches 2000 m. The important ports of
Odessa, Kherson, Mykolayiv and Sebastopol lie on the Black Sea.
The
Sea of Azov is the world’s most shallow sea. Its average depth is
5-7 m.
There
are many big rivers in Ukraine, the largest being the Dnieper,
Dnister, Danube, Southern Bug, Siversky Donetz. Rivers and other
water resources (lakes, ponds) play an important role in water
supply.
Within
the borders in Ukraine we find the picturesque Carpathian Mountains
which attract many tourists and people who want to Improve their
health. The Crimean Mountains rise to 1500 m above the sea level. The
Crimea is one of the most beautiful areas of Ukraine. There are many
health resorts, rest houses and camps in the Crimea.
The
economic potential of Ukraine is great. It has rich deposits of
metals, coal, oil, gas and other natural resources.
From
the point of view of its climate, flora and fauna Ukraine is unique.
It’s the only country in Europe where the meadow vegetation merges
with the forests in the north-west, the steppe vegetation in the
south and east and the Mediterranean vegetation in the Black Sea
shore.
