I am thirty!"

Mike, back

from your holiday

then? How are you

feeling?

Mike: Fit as a fiddle.

Eric: You look thinner

too.

Mike: Yes, I managed to

lose eleven pounds.

I feel like forty.

Eric: You are forty, Mike.

I was at your birthday

party three

months ago.

Mike: That's true, but I w a s feeling like fifty when I went on holiday.

Eric: Sounds like some special kind of holiday. Not the usual sunbathing and

overeating, I t a ke it.

Mike: No, not this time. Do you remember when I came back from Austria two

years ago? I looked like Orson Welles in his later films. W e booked what

they call an activity holiday this time.

Eric: I don't believe it.

Mike: Oh yes, we got up at seven every morning and jogged round the lake before

breakfast.

Eric: You're joking!

Mike: No, I'm not. And after breakfast w e played tennis for an hour or so. Then

we were off for a swim in the pool and a sauna. And twice a week w e had a

mud bath and a massage.

Eric: And don't tell me - for lunch you had raw vegetables and fruit.

Mike: Well, not always. W e got a steak now and then. - In the afternoon there

was an hour's rest, and then w e went on a walking or cycling tour.

Eric: And how did you spend your evenings?

Mike: Oh, we played table tennis or billiards, or took a boat trip round the lake.

Once they arranged a dance at the hotel. W e tried the discos too, but we

couldn't stand the noise.

Eric: You didn't visit the local nightclubs?

Mike: No, we usually went to bed early. W e wanted to be fit for the programme

the following morning.

Eric: Well, I'm glad to hear you're in such splendid form, Mike. Alan's wife just

phoned to say he's ill. Ate some strange foreign food on his holiday. I'm

afraid you're in for some overtime ...
