Problem-solving

Task 8 Using the information from the Listening, and in Task 7, describe what these keys do.

For this activity, work individually or in pairs and write brief descriptions of the four functions as quickly as you can. If you can do this easily, write descriptions of the functions of any two other keys.

Speaking

You may be unsure about the English pronunciation of the letters, so quickly revise the alphabet, before going on to talk about the names of the different symbols and punctuation marks. (The alphabet, like numbers, is a topic that needs to be constantly recycled in order for to feel really confident with it, and spelling games are a good way of revising vocabulary.)

For the symbols exercise itself, work in pairs to try to complete the table.

As a follow-up, and in preparation for Task 10, dictate some email addresses to the whole class, spelling them out letter by letter.

Task 10 This pair-work exercise gives students the opportunity both to recognize symbols and letters when they hear them, and also to produce them themselves.

Work in pairs. In the key of task10 Student A should turn to A Variant. Student В should turn to B Variant. Don’t see your partner’s variant. Read these email and website addresses to your partner. Copy down the addresses your partner reads to you.

Most keyboards have four sections. The main keyboard has keys for each letter and the digits 0 to 9. It also has keys for punctuation and other common symbols. It is used for inputting all kinds of data.

Use this model to shape your own text.
