The outstanding scientist – Graham Bell

Henry Ford, the American Manufacturer, said: “Transportation is civilization”. I agree with it but speaking of my future profession I can say: “Telecommunication is civilization”. There are many scientists who contributed to telecoms devices. I think, it’s well to begin with Graham Bell.

Alexander Graham Bell was born in 1847 in Edinburgh. A few words of his father: he was a teacher of speech. He invented a system which he called “Visible Speech”. It helped deaf people to speak. Alexander chose the same profession, as his father he became a teacher of the deaf. He moved to the United States and began to teach deaf children to speak. He dreamed to send musical tones electrically from one place to another. It was the idea of the “harmonic telegraph”. Unfortunately, Alexander was not a scientist. So he had to give all his energy to learn electricity. He had little time to rest and little time to eat. Day and night he worked experimenting with the telephone. He worked with his friend Watson. They decided to try a new kind of transmitter. The transmitter was set in Bell’s bedroom. Watson was sitting in the laboratory. Watson put his ear to the receiver. Suddenly he heard Bell’s words: “Mr. Watson, come here. I want you.” So the first telephone was invented.

Almost forty years later the first transcontinental telephone line was opened. Graham Bell was sitting in New York at a desk with a telephone before him. His friend Watson was sitting in San Francisco. People expected to hear a serious, scientific speech. Suddenly they heard Bell’s clear voice “Mr. Watson, come here. I want you.” Bell repeated the same words. Watson answered: “I would be glad to come, but it would take me a week.”

About myself

It’s no easy matter to speak of myself, but I will do my best. Let me introduce myself. No doubts, my name is…

If I am not mistaken, I am….(19, 20). If serious, I have left my school number… It is famous for its high-quality education and strict discipline. The school is very well-equipped. After graduating from the school I decided to enter Kazan Technical University. To tell the truth, if I hadn’t been good at maths, I wouldn’t have entered the University.

Now I am a student of Kazan Technical University. I have been studying there for three terms. We have got many subjects in our time-table such as- maths, physics, information technology, history, English, Russian and so on. I go to the University 5 days a week. Lectures begin at 8 o’clock in the morning. Each lecture lasts ninety minutes. After each lecture we have a twenty-minute break. During this break we go to the canteen to have lunch. We usually have a lot of homework. Sometimes I have to sit up to write a composition, to learn formulas and terms, to translate articles from English into Russian. It is not possible to tell about myself without focusing on my friends. In reality, there are …students in my group. They are friendly. My friends help me in my study. We spend our free time discussing our problems, going to the cinema, walking along the streets, visiting the café. I am sure, if I graduate from the University I will miss my friends.

You may ask me - What is my hobby? I will answer you – my hobby is ….. To conclude my story, I would like to stress that there is nothing more interesting than university ages. They are known to help us to become wiser, stronger and abler.
