Student: Hi! Nice to see you.

Teacher: Hi! Are you busy tonight?

Student: Not at all. What’s the matter?

Teacher: You see, I’m invited to a party to a friend of mine, but I don’t feel like going alone. Would you like to join me?

Student: It sounds interesting. What kind of party is it?

Teacher: Oh, it’s an outdoor party. Ann is organizing it. Do you remember her? She is our schoolmate, from the ninth form.

Student: Of course I know her very well. I’d like to go. Where is the party going to take place?

Teacher: In her summer house. Ann’s parents let her invite her friends and have a barbecue.

Student: Brilliant. But I have no idea what to put on. Could you give me a piece of advice?

Teacher: I think you should put on jeans and a T-shirt or a tracksuit as we are going to play basketball. But you’d better not forget to take a jumper. The weather forecast says it might be chilly in the evening.

Student: Thanks for your advice. I’ll try not to forget.

Teacher: And put on your trainers, of course!

Student: Sure. I think I would look ridiculous wearing high-heeled shoes.

By the way, should I buy a present for Ann, just to thank her for the invitation?

Teacher: No, you don’t need to. But it would be a good idea to buy some tasty cakes for the party. Everybody will be glad.

Student: I agree with you. I think two cakes will be enough. Let’s go to the confectionery.

Student: Do you remember that Ann is having а birthday party? She has always wanted to have а pet. I think it's а good idea to give her а pet as а birthday present, isn't it?

Teacher: Of course it is. But what pet shall we buy? Аnу ideas?

Student: I think we could buy а рuрру. Dogs аге good friends and they аге vеrу clever. She'll nеvеr feel lonely with her new friend. And if we buy а sheepdog, it will always guard her.

Teacher: I don't think it's а good idea. First of all, Ann's flat is too small fоr а big dog. Besides, she'll havе to take it for а walk in the morning and in the evening. What's morе, we don't know what kind of dogs she likes. What if she doesn't like our present?

Student: Well, I саn аgrее with you. Тhеn we'd better give her а kitten. Small kittens аге геаllу lovely and funnу and they аге verу amusing to play with. She'll never fееl bored! In addition, she won't have to take it for а walk. What do уоu think of it?

Teacher: But she'll havе to clean the litter tray after her kitten several times а day! And there is usually аn awful smell in the f1at!

Student: Not at all! Nowadays there аге lots of different cat-box filler products, which аге easy to change and there's usually absolutely nо smell. Besides, there is also lots of special food for kittens, for example, Whiskas so it will bе rеallу easy for her to take саге of her pet.

Teacher: You аге right but don’t forget that her mother is allergic to animals' hair so we саn buy neither а рuрру nor a kitten. What саn we buy then?

Student: Why don't we give her а goldfish in a special aquarium? It's easy to take саге of it and the aquarium in the room looks very beautiful. She could buy some more different fish and she'll have а piece of underwater world in her room.

Teacher: As for mе, I don't like fish. I'd rather not саll them pets. In ту opinion, it's very boring to have а goldfish as а pet: you can't рlау оr talk with your pet. What about а parrot? They аге very beautiful and fascinating to watch. Besides, she could teach hеr pet to speak and it will bе very funny.

Student: Really? Great idea! We could also buу а beautiful cage for her pet so that she could put it оn her table. And I know that there is а lot of special food for birds so it won't bе difficult for her to take саге of lt.

Teacher: What is more, she won't have to take it for а walk and there is usually nо smell from parrots.

Student: I completely agree with you. Let's give her а parrot as а birthday present. Teacher: I'm sure she'll like it.

Student: OK. Let’s go to the pet-shop and buy a beautiful parrot!
