Quantities adjectives: much, many, few, little, a lot of.

NB!

  • much –with uncountable nouns in questions and negative sentences.

eg: We haven’t got much time.

  • many – with plural countable nouns in questions and negative sentences.

eg : Are there many restaurants in town?

Notes

  • To ask obout quantity, we use

How much + uncountable noun:

eg : How much milk did you buy?

How many + plural countable noun:

eg : How many students are there in the group?

  • a few + plural noun.

eg : There are a few letters on the desk for you, Mrs. Andrews.

  • a little + uncountable noun.

eg : I like a little milk in my tea, please.

a lot of can be used with countable and uncountable nouns

eg : I have a lot of time.

There is a lot of snow outside.
