Each of these stars represents one of the fifty states. But the City of Washington is not in any of these states. The District of Columbia is between the states of Virginia and Maryland on the Potomac River not far from the Atlantic Ocean.

But one season has to be seen – Washington’s cherry blossom time. Several thousands of these cherry trees were given to Washington in 1912 by the City of Tokyo. When they flower – in early April, the whole city draws its breath. The cherry blossom time lasts almost 12 days; it is indeed Washington’s wonderful season.

  4. The Capitol Building is the city’s central point. From this centre the city is divided into four sections: North West, North East, South West and South East. The Capitol is also the point from which the city’s streets are numbered or lettered. The streets east and west of the Capitol are numbered, the streets, to the north and to the south are named for letters of the alphabet.

  5. Almost all the famous sights are in the North West section. There you can see the Capitol, the White House, the Library of Congress the biggest existing library.
