The Mass Media
1. The media include television, radio, movies, newspapers, magazines, comic books. Advertisement penetrates deeply into mass media. Propaganda and publicity campaigns also penetrate into the media in such open society like the United States. In closed-societies propaganda gets into the media without commercial advertising. Hitler was an outstanding manipulator of propaganda. When the lie he told was bigger its popular effect was more massive. And so it was under Hitler..
2. What is a definition of the mass media? The mass media is the delivery of a message to everybody, to the mass. The telephone delivers a message to a person, not to the mass. The Post Office delivers mail to specific individuals or organizations. Some magazines go to professional or specialized groups, the big 'woman's' magazines belong to the category of mass media.
3. The danger in the mass media comes when some sender has an ulterior (скрытый) motive — to sell a product or sell a candidate or a policy.
4. Of course, people can spread rumours to direct propaganda against certain individuals. But without press and broadcasting the effects of any information couldn't be so great. It’s difficult to influence people's opinion without morning headline stories in the newspapers.
