  6. The Englishmen love sports.

  7. Some play games, some watch them, others like to speak about sports.

  8. Many traditional sporting contests take place in England, for example, cricket.

  9. It is played from May till September.

  10. They think that summer without cricket isn’t summer.

  11. If you want to play cricket you must wear white boots, a white shirt and white long trousers.

  10. It is very convenient.

  11. You don’t need to go to the cinema and book tickets.

  12. People don’t have a chance to watch great sport competitions, but on TV.

  13. Many people like to watch their favourite singers on TV.

  14. Tickets on the concert are rather expensive, so TV helps many to do it.

  15. But there are some disadvantages of TV too.

  16. Many people spend a lot of time in front of television screen.

  17. It is very bad for their sight.

  18. Schoolchildren often spend all free time watching TV instead of doing homework.

  19. People who spend too much time in front of TV- sets are called “coach potatoes”

  20. It’s more useful to meet friends, to do sports.

  21. So TV has some advantages and disadvantages.

№ 14 NIZHNEVARTOVS

1. Nizhnevartovsk is my native town.

2. My town is very young. It is 38 years old.

3 The history of the town is very interesting

  1. Fist it was a small village on the bank of the longest river the Ob

  2. People go fishing and hunting.

  3. But life changed greatly hear when oil was found in the middle of 60’s.

  4. The largest oil deposit is “Samotlor”

  5. Oilmen and builders, pilots from all parts of our country came hear to live and work.

  6. Nizhnevartovsk is multinational town.

  7. Today Nizhnevartovsk is the biggest oil centre of Russia.

  8. It is a very beautiful city.

  9. It was built on swamps.

  10. It is beautiful in summer and in winter.

  11. I want more people to see my town.

  12. I want to show them its beauty.

  13. I will begin with monuments.

  14. The most magnificent and important monument is a monument “Alersha”

  15. It was built in hourner of the first oilmen.

  16. In 1980 the first train arrived to Nizhnevartovsk.

  17. I would like to show a village of native people of our region.

# 15 Traditions of Russia

1. There are many holidays and traditions in Russia

2. One of them is Maslenitsa.

3. This holiday lasts for a week

5. They say ‘goodbye” to winter on this holiday.

6. During “Maslenitsa” week” we always bake pancakes.

7. It is a tradition to bake pancakes and eat them with fish, sour cream, caviar, honey, sugar, butter.

9. During the holiday we celebrate the beginning of spring.

10. Usually this holiday is celebrated in the parks.

11. People fires and burn straw scarecrows of winter.

12. I like this holiday, because I like to eat pancakes and I like spring.

13. One of the most important holiday in our country is Victory Day.

14. On this Day we remember those who fought for the freedom of our country.

15. Victory Day is celebrated on May,9.

16. A minute of silence begins after a chime of the Kremlin tower clock.

18. The President of Russia congratulate all the veterans.

20. Veterans tell about their adventures in the war.

21. In battles we won the right to be free.

Moscow

  1. Moscow is the capital of Russia.

  2. It is on the Moscva river.

  3. It is a big and beautiful city.

  4. It is a modern city.

  5. Moscow is a political center.

  6. Moscow was founded in 1147 by Yuri Dolgoruky.

  7. Moscow is a port of five seas.

  8. It is an industrial center too.

  9. Moscow is a cultural center.

  10. There are many theatres, museums, cinemas and art galleries in Moscow.

  11. The Bolshoi Theatre is the most famous.

  12. The Tretyakov Art Gallery is the most famous.

  13. Red square is the heart of Moscow.

  14. Different parades take place there.

  15. There ere many churches and monuments in Moscow.

  16. Moscow is a big transport centre.

  17. Moscow has the most beautiful underground.

  1. The United States of America is the largest countries in the world.

  2. It is situated in the central part of the North American continent.

  3. It is washed by the Pacific Ocean and by the Atlantic Ocean

  4. People of different nationalities live in The USA.

  5. The capital of the country is Washington.

  8. There are many mountains in the USA.

  13. The main lakes in the USA are the Great Lakes in the north.

  18. The Statue of Liberty is the symbol of American democracy.

  1. Australia has got 6 states: New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and two internal territories.

  2. It is situated in the south-west of the Pacific Ocean.

  3. Australia is the largest island in the world and it is the smallest

continent.

  1. The Dutch were the first Europeans to visit Australia.

  2. In 1770 the English captain James Cook discovered the east coast of Australia.

  3. The capital of the country is Canberra.

  4. There are many sights in the city.

  5. They are the building of the Australian Academy of Sciences, the Australian National University and others.

  6. The largest cities are Sydney and Melbourne.

  7. The Australian climate is dry and warm.

  8. Australia is situated in the southern hemisphere and that’s why there is summer, when we have winter and there is winter, when we have summer.

  9. It is interesting to know that January is the hottest month in Australia.

  10. The animals in Australia are interesting.

  11. The dingo is a wild animal.

  12. At night it kills sheep, hens, chickens, small dogs.

  13. You can see kangaroo there.

  14. The kangaroo has got the pouch in which it carries her cub.

  15. There are many unusual birds in Australia: parrots, cockatoos.

  16. The emu is the most interesting bird in Australia.

  17. It is big and can’t fly.

№ 13 Environmental Pollution

  1. People have always polluted their surroundings.

  2. But until now pollution was not such a serious problem.

  3. People lived in rural areas and did not have pollution.

  4. With the development of industrial cities the problem has become more important.

  5. Automobiles and other new inventions make pollution steadily worse.

  6. Air, water, and soil are necessary for existence of living things

  7. But polluted air can cause illness, and even death.

  8. Polluted water kills fish and other marine life.

  9. On polluted soil, food cannot be grown.

  10. In addition environmental pollution spoils the natural beauty of our planet.

  11. Pollution is as complicated as serious problem.

  12. Automobiles are polluting the air but they provide transportation for the people.

  13. Factories pollute the air and the water but they provide jobs for people and produce necessary goods.

  14. Fertilizers and pesticides are important for growing crops but they can ruin soil.

  15. Thus, people would have to stop using many useful things if they wanted to end pollution.

  16. Most people do not want that of course.

  17. But pollution can be reduced gradually.

  18. Scientists and engineers can find the ways to reduce pollution from automobiles and factories.

  19. Government can pass the laws that would make enterprises take measures for reducing of pollution.

  20. People can persuade enterprises to stop polluting activities.
