The Contents of Module 8. Basic Symptoms and Syndroms in Diseases of the Digestive System and Urinary System.

Concrete aims:

  • to combine the results of questioning, physical and instrumental examination of a patient with specific pathology of digestive system and urinary system and differentiate the basic symptoms and syndroms of their damage

  • to identify the basic syndroms in diseases of digestive and urinary systems and explain the mechanisms of their development

  • to choose the adequate methods of examination in specific diseases of digestive and urinary system

  • to demonstrate the possessing of modern classifications of the diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and urinary system

Topic 10. Clinical, Instrumental and Laboratory Examination of the Patients with Chronic Gastritis, Gastric and Duodenal Ulcer and Diseases of the Intestine.

Class lasts: 3 hours

Chronological class structure:

Control of initial standard of knowledges- 20 min.

Teacher′s demonstration of practical skills - 60 min.

Sudents′ independent work: - 30 min.

Control of ultimate standard of knowledges- 15 min.

Questions for theoretical preparation: Definition and modern classifications of gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcer. Etiology of these diseases. Epidemiology of Helicobacter pylori, сonditions of damage of a mucosa of a stomach and duodenum. Main complaints of the patients with gastritis and peptic ulcer. Instrumental and laboratory examination of the patients. Complications of peptic ulcer disease. Acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding: clinical features. Main symptoms and syndroms in patients with enteritis and colitis: intestinal dyspepsia, symptoms of malabsorption. Irritable bowel syndrome.

Syndrom of functional dyspepsia

Syndrome of functional dyspepsia - the complex of the symptoms that includes the pain and feeling of the discomfort in epigastria, heaviness and feeling of overflow after meal, early saturation, swelling of a stomach, nausea, vomiting, eructation, heartburn and other signs at which it is not possible to reveal organic pathology.
