TOPIC 10. “Three types of the NET: difference, areas of operating, users”.

There are three types of the net connection in the world practice: internet, intranet, extranet.

Internet – is the great quantity of computers which are connected with each other, and, plus, it’s the assembling of rules, which allow to make the process of exchanging an information between computers. And, actually, the channels of communications are less important then these rules. These rules are called “protocols.” For ex. if even two computers connected with each other and use one of the protocols, then this system is a real Internet! Modems, www (World Wide Web) make the Internet one of the most convenient and fastest source of searching an information.

Internet it’s also the huge amount of computers and programs. The entry to the Internet can give an unique possibility to turn out in XXI century and explore such a meanings as “world-wide cyber-socium”, “virtual money”, “an informational area” and so on and so worth…

However, the Internet nowadays it’s not only a great amount of computers, but and incredible quantity of people for whom the net is the principally new way of communication via e-mails, on-line communication, web-cams…No one material way of the post communication has the same fast speed as the sources of the Internet!

Intranet – is an extension of the Internet which means that companies can communicate between each other via almost an internet site, but on a daily basis and it’s purely for those two companies to trade from. It has no access from outside, so confidentiality is kept. It delivers to company’s clients immediate access to any work that’s in progress. Clients can comment very quickly on changes that need to be made and company, in turn, can respond back with speed.

Also, an intranet is a private space that gives employees in a company the ability to organize information, readily access that information, manage documents, share calendars and enable efficient collaboration, all in a familiar, browser-based environment.

Because all your important business information resides in a central repository, it's available at any time, from anywhere in the world, using a simple web browser.

Authorized users outside your company such as your remote workers, suppliers, partners or clients can also use it to collaborate, communicate and share business critical information.

Many organizations discover other unique and creative uses for intranet technology to solve real business problems.

Extranet – is a private network that uses Internet protocols and the public telecommunication system to securely share part of a business's information or operations with suppliers, vendors, partners, customers, or other businesses. An extranet can be viewed as part of a company's intranet that is extended to users outside the company. The same benefits that Web technologies have brought to corporate intranets are now starting to accelerate business between businesses.

Extranets can be used to exchange large volumes of data, share product catalogs, share news with trading partners, collaborate with other companies on joint development efforts, jointly develop and share training programs with other companies, provide or access applications between companies, and much more.
