“On Tuesday the country education committee is expected to vote for the closure of the 26- pupil primary school which has stood in the center of the village for more than a century. Parents gathered outside the schoolhouse, angry that they are having to contest again a proposal defeated three years ago. The reasons advanced by councils are both economic and educational. They argue that the educational and social development of children in small schools can be held back because of lack of stimulation and competition. And mixed aged classes, which are a feature of small schools led to lower achievement. Parents argue that a good teacher can provide a rich curriculum in a small.”
