English Language

The most widespread languages nowadays are English, Chinese, Hindi, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian.

English language is spoken by more than 1,750 million people. Residents of the United Kingdom, the USA, Canada, Republic of Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, many countries of Asia and Africa speak English.

English it belongs to the Indo-European family of languages to it's Germanic branch.

English language appeared 2000 years ago. It is a mixture (hybrid) of old Germanic language: French, Greek, Latin.

We can distinguish three major periods in the evolution of English. There are Old English, Middle English and Modern English.

During the Old English period new words were based on native ones with prefixes and suffixes.

Of foreign languages the most influential was Latin.

The Middle English period was marked by French rule.

French became an official language. But only lower classes spoke English. There are many French borrowings in English language.

During modern English period many new words were borrowed from different languages.

English Languages is spoken in British Isles.

There are Gaelic, Welsh, Manx.

As four American English it is a version of a British English. American English is different from British English, because America is a country of migrants.

They came from different countries and brought a lot of new words to the classical English language.

English Language it is a international communication, it is a language of science, computers, medicine, sailors, pilots, businessmen.
