ПРЕДИСЛОВИЕ
Настоящее учебное пособие предназначается для старших курсов судоводительских факультетов морских учебных заведений, курсанты которых овладели основами английского языка.
Последовательность в расположении материала обусловливается планом прохождения специальных дисциплин.
В книге три части.
I часть содержит штурманские пособия: основные разделы лоции;
надписи (заголовки, примечания, предостережения) и сокращения на английских морских картах; список огней;
извещения мореплавателям;
метеосводки;
список радиосигналов;
список командных слов и выражений.
К тем разделам книги, которыми курсанаы должны научиться пользоваться, не прибегая к общим словарям, даны тематические списки слов1. Слова тех разделов I части, которые предназначены для перевода со словарем, а также слова, встречающиеся во II части пособия, включены в общий словарь.
II часть состоит из материалов, связанных с грузовой докумен- тацией:
введение к чтению чартера;
чартер;
коносамент;
«нотис» о готовности судна; грузовой манифест; морской протест.

В конце второй части книги помещены англо-русский и русско-английский словари, составленные с учетом лексических знаний курсантов, полученных в результате работы над учебником английского языка для первых двух курсов морских училищ.
Помимо текстов в пособие §ключены упражнения на специфические для литературы по судоводительской специальности лексико-грамматические «трудности», а также упражнения в чтении и упражнения для развития навыков устной речи.
Таким образом, эта книга не только поможет курсантам научиться переводить специальную литературу, но и облегчит им запоминание сложных грамматических явлений английского языка, обогатит их словарный запас и отчасти будет способствовать развитию у них разговорных навыков.
III часть содержит тексты по судоводительской специальности, подобранные из оригинальной английской литературы. Они предназначены для чтения и перевода со словарем.
Задача третьей части пособия — подготовить курсантов к чтению оригинальной технической литературы при помощи общего и специального словарей. Ряд текстов снабжен рисунками.
Пособие может быть использовано курсантами морских учебных заведений и судоводительским составом транспортных и промысловых судов.
