1) We have to study a lot of subjects at

school such as Maths, Ukrainian, Literature,

foreign languages, Physics, Chemistry,

Biology and many others. 2) Studying all

the subjects takes a lot of time and mental

work. 3) Of course these subjects play a very

important role in our education. 4) Maths

teaches us to operate numbers because we

live in the world of numbers and we have to

do a lot of calculations every day. 5) Physics

and Chemistry give us knowledge about the

construction of the world and interaction

of its elements. 6) Biology provides us with

knowledge about all the living beings on our

planet. 7) We must know Ukrainian because

we live in Ukraine, it is our mother tongue

and it is a part of our history and culture.

8) It’s also important to know foreign languages

to develop relationships with people

from other countries and to learn literature

to be a well-educated person. 9) History gives

us information about ancient civilizations,

their development and their culture. 10) It

is necessary to study history so that we

could understand our present life and plan

our future life. 11) Lessons of Information

Science are extremely important for every

young person because computers and the

Internet have become an essential part of

modern life. 12) There are also such subjects

as Music, Art or Physical Education which

don’t require much brain work. 13) That’s

why some pupils believe that these subjects

aren’t so important. 14) Some pupils even

think that they are a waste of time. 15) I

can’t agree with them. 16) The lessons of

Physical Education help us to exercise our

body and to keep fit. 17) We spend so much

time reading, writing, surfing the Net and

sitting in front of a TV set and there is no

place for sports in our life. 18) Young people

have so many health problems and the lack of

physical activities makes us turn into couch

potatoes. 19) For many of my classmates the

lessons of Physical Education are the only

opportunity to go in for sport. 20) Art and

Music are also necessary for young people

because these subjects help to understand

the value of real beauty and to appreciate

pieces of art. 21) To my mind, there are no

more important or less important subjects at

school. 22) All the subjects we do help us to

develop different skills and to become welleducated

personalities.

1) Young people often have a person they

admire and use this person as a role model.

2) To my mind, having a role model is quite

natural because young people need some

example to imitate. 3) No matter who this

person is — an actor or an actress, a sportsman

or a politician, a literary character or

some other outstanding person, your teacher

or your parents. 4) You must respect this person

and have a wish to copy him or her. 5) It

is rather difficult to name the most popular

person with the young people in our country.

6) And it is not necessary, to my mind. 7) We

are different and we have different aims in our

life so we need to have different role models.

8) Girls usually imitate famous actresses and

other celebrities. 9) They look for information

about the life and work of their role models,

copy their behaviour, style of clothes and

hairstyles, they buy make-up of the same

brands and keep to the same diets. 10) Boys

often imitate sportsmen or some musicians.

11) As for me, I admire my father and I want

to resemble him. 12) My father is a serious and

hardworking man. 13) He is a successful person

because he has his own business. 14) My

father is a determined man and works a lot

to achieve his aim. 15) He is also a reliable

person and always keeps his word, that’s why

his business partners trust him. 16) My father

hasn’t got many friends but his friends know

that he won’t betray them. 17) Although my

father is a serious person, he has got a good

sense of humour and I you’ll never feel bored

in his company. 18) He knows a lot and can

speak about politics as well as about art or

history. 19) I’d like to be as determined and

hardworking as my father. 20) To my mind,

these traits are the most necessary to get success

in life and business. 21) And of course, to

be a fascinating person, I must get an excellent

education. 22) I will do my best so that my

father could be proud of me.
