Part A. Skills Development.
Communication Starter – студентам предлагаются вопросы, связанные с ситуацией знакомства и представления.
Speaking and Listening -- в данном разделе акцент делается на формирование и развитие навыков общения в реальной ситуации знакомства преподавателя со студентами группы.
Developing communication skills: Introductions — студентам предлагаются разнообразные речевые формулы представления в официальной и неофициальной ситуации (Appendix 1. C. Making Introductions) и даются задания для проверки усвоения и тренировки в их использовании.
Developing communication skills: Starting a conversation – студентам даются рекомендации, как вступить в контакт с собеседником и поддержать этикетную беседу ‘small talk’ (Appendix 1.F. Small talk). Студентам предлагается прослушать и проанализировать причины успешности/неуспешности двух диалогов. Поскольку основным грамматическим навыком для ведения беседы в данном формате является умение ставить вопросы, последующие задания направлены на формирование этого умения в конкретных речевых ситуациях.
Reading and Speaking – предлагается текст для ознакомительного чтения (skimming the text) «Do you know the right way to address people in English?» Послетекстовые задания способствуют закреплению информации, полученной в тексте, и обеспечивают проверку практического использования этой информации.
Developing communication skills: Socialising: introductions, greetings, small talk, saying good-bye – представляет собой обобщающий этап практического использования речевых формул, правил ведения этикетной беседы и знаний, полученных из текста, в предложенных ситуациях общения.
Part B. Grammar and Vocabulary – дает краткие сведения о порядке слов в повествовательном и вопросительном предложениях и упражнения на закрепление данных правил. В фокусе внимания подраздела «Vocabulary Focus» -- один из наиболее употребительных глаголов - get – в различных значениях и устойчивых словосочетаниях.
Part C. Additional Reading – предлагает тексты для ознакомительного чтения, которые дают студентам дополнительные сведения о культуре общения и об особенностях межкультурного общения. Тексты объединены рубрикой: Communication of Cultures and Culture of Communication, которая включает три текста: «Do You Know the Basic Rules of Introductions?», «Safe and Unsafe Subjects for Talk», и текст, название для которого студенты должны подобрать из предложенных вариантов.

Speaking and Listening -- в данном разделе в центре внимания обучающих действий преподавателя находится задача формирования первичных навыков презентации. Презентация рассматривается как важное академическое умение, формируемое и совершенствуемое в процессе всего курса обучения.
Developing communication skills: Getting ready for presentations — студентам даются некоторые рекомендации по построению текста презентации сообщения (доклада).
Developing communication skills: Addressing the audience in a formal (semiformal) situation -- даются образцы обращения к аудитории в официальной и полуофициальной ситуации общения и задания по использованию некоторых приемов презентации и обращения к аудитории, в том числе предлагаются тексты кратких презентаций для аудирования с последующим анализом.
Reading, Speaking and Writing – предлагается текст для изучающего (detail reading) чтения «Welcome to University», в котором обсуждается важность знания иностранного языка для современных специалистов и цели университетского курса по английскому языку. Послетекстовые задания дают возможность закрепить необходимую лексику и организовать обсуждение целей, приоритетных для каждого студента.
Текст построен как презентация кафедры и может быть проанализирован студентами как образец жанра презентации.
Послетекстовые задания позволяют сосредоточить внимание студентов на необходимости и важности постановки (осознании) целей изучения английского языка.
Part B. Grammar and Vocabulary – дает краткие сведения об употреблении временных форм Present, Past, Future Simple, Present Continuous and Present Perfect и упражнения на закрепление данных правил. В фокусе внимания подраздела «Vocabulary Focus» глаголы make и do, а также некоторые словообразовательные модели.
Part C. Additional Reading. Communication of Cultures and Culture of Communication – предлагает тексты для ознакомительного чтения, способствующие формированию социокультурной компетенции. Раздел включает три текста: «Cultural Hints for Performing Presentations», «Speeches of Introduction», «SMART Goal Setting».
