6. Population.
People of three races live in Eurasia: europeoid, mongoloid and equatorial. The most numerous is the europeoid race. People of this race live in Europe, India and South-Western Asia. They are divided into two groups: southern and northern. People of mongoloid race live in Central and Eastern Asia. A small amount of black people lives on the island of Sri-Lanka and on the southern coast of Hindustan.
Eurasia is the most populated continent. 4 billion 530 million people live here (Europe – 730 million; Asia – 3 billion 800 million). The most densely populated areas are in Eastern Asia, on the Hindustan peninsula, on the island of Java, in Europe. The density of population here is 700-1000 persons to a square km. The Tibet, the Gobi Desert and the Arabian Desert are almost unpopulated. There are many countries in both Europe and Asia.

7.Europe.
Europe is a part of the world, which makes together with Asia one continent – Eurasia. The total area of Europe is 10.5 million sq km. The Urals make natural borders between Europe and Asia. Europe is washed by the Atlantic and by the Arctic Oceans and seas belonging to them. There are many islands in Europe. Along the coasts of Europe there are many islands. The biggest of them is Great Britain. Its area is 230 thousand sq km. ¼ of the territory of Europe is occupied by peninsulas. That makes nearly 730 thousand sq km.
The relief of Europe is various, but not complicated. There are some small plains and highland here. Mountains of both old and young age are situated here. The highest mountain in Europe is Mont Blanc (4 807 km). The highest volcano is Etna (3 323 km).
The climate in Europe is mostly temperate. In the north, it is subarctic and arctic, in the south – mediterranean. There are many big rivers and some lakes on the territory of Europe. Most of the rivers empty their waters into the Atlantic Ocean.
The population here is 729 million people. The most densely populated territories are Germany and Great Britain. All the territory is divided into four regions.

Austria.
Austria is a country in Central Europe. The name of it comes from an ancient German word ostarrichi meaning eastern country. It borders on Germany and Czechia in the north, on Hungary and Slovakia in the east, on Italy and Slovenia in the south and on Liechtenstein and Switzerland in the west. The country has no way to the sea. The biggest part of it is occupied by the Alps and near by territories. The total area of it is 83 859 sq km.
Austria is a republic. The power in the country belongs to the president, who is elected for 6 years. It also has the parliament, all the members of which are elected for 4 years. The country consists of 8 federal regions and one capital district.
The population of Austria is 8 million 151 thousand people. 88.5% of it is the Germans. The rest are people of Slavic nationalities. The state language is German.
The climate of the country is temperate. Winter here is mild with a lot of snow. The coldest month is January, when the temperature is -2°C, and -14 °C in the mountains, where snow is 7-8 months a year. Summer is hot especially in July and August. The average temperature is +20°C. The amount of rainfalls is from 600 to 2000 mm a year.
Austria lies in deciduous forests mainly, where oaks, beeches, hornbeams and ash-trees grow. Higher in the mountains you can find coniferous trees, and higher 2000 m there are Alpine meadows. A lot of animals live here: deer, moose, antelope, bear, many rodents and alpine white turkey.
There are many rivers in Austria. The biggest are the Rhine and the Danube. There are also 580 lakes most of which are of ice origin.
The capital of Austria is Vienna. It became the main city in 1918 and is situated in the picturesque region at the foot of the Alps called Vienna forest. There are a lot of places of interest in the capital. Vienna Opera House, Shonbrunn Palace, Belvedere Park are among them. There are also many museums there.
