1. Прочитайте, перепишите и переведите следующий текст:

Food of Animals

Plants obtain their food from the air, soil and water. Ani­mals cannot make their own food in this way, but depend upon plants. Not all animals depend directly upon plants for their food.

Animals that live entirely on plants are known as herbivorous animals; those that live on the flesh of other ani­mals are carnivorous animals; those that live on insects are insectivorous animals; and those that eat both plants and ani­mals are omnivorous.

Such domestic animals as cattle, horses and sheep live on plants and are herbivorous animals. Chickens, turkeys and most of the other birds live on insects and plants, and are examples of omnivorous animals.

The nutrients which the plants make for animals are pro­teins, carbohydrates and fats. Carbohydrates always contain twice as much hydrogen as oxygen.

Fats differ from carbohydrates in that they contain much larger amounts of carbon and a much smaller amount of oxy­gen.

Protein is much more complex than carbohydrates or fats. In addition to carbon, hydrogen and oxygen protein always contains nitrogen.
