8. Hardware

Mechanical, magnetic, electronic and electrical devices composing a computer system are referred to as hardware. Hardware is divided into four categories: input devices; processing devices; storage devices; output devices. The purpose of the input devices is to collect data and to convert it into a form suitable for computer processing. The most common input devices are a keyboard and a mouse. Other input devices may be: a scanner, a microphone, a joystick, a photo or video camera.

The purpose of the processing devices is to retrieve, interpret and direct the execution of the commands provided to the computer. With a well-designed CPU you can perform highly sophisticated tasks in a very short time. Memory is the system component of the computer where information is stored. There are two types of computer memory: RAM and ROM. The purpose of the storage devices is to store commands and data in a relatively permanent form and to retrieve them when needed for processing. The most common storage devices are: hard disk, floppy disk, different kinds of compact disks and so-called “flash drives”.

The purpose of the output devices is to show the user the information produced by a computer system. Information may be output in a hardcopy or a softcopy form. The examples of output devices may be a printer, a monitor, an audio system etc.Modem represents communication hardware used for data transfer from one computer to another via telephone lines.

Computer Crimes

Nowadays more and more important and valuable information exists only inside computer memories. There fore any person, who know how to use a computer can get access to this information and use it for his (her) own purpose. Such people often misuse obtained information. For instance, virtual money can be transferred to any account.

The criminals can use stolen information including personal one, for blackmail, sell it to your ill-wishers, etc. Software is also often stolen. This kind of crimes is even carried out through removed access over the telephone lines. “Phone hooligans” can easily not pay for the charges. Generally computer criminals can easily aroid punishment. The employers are often afraid of the bad publicity because they use either illegally business method or illegally obtained information. There fore computer criminal are not only imprisoned but are even given glowing recommendations.

8. «Железо»

Механические, магнитные, электронные и электрические устройства образующие компьютерную систему считаются «железом». «Железо» разделяется на 4 категории: Устройство ввода, обрабатывающее устройство, устройство для хранения, устройство для вывода. Назначение устройства ввода это собирать данные и преобразовывать их в форму удобную для компьютерной обработки. Наиболее обще принятыми устройствами ввода считаются клавиатура и мышь. Другие устройства ввода могут быть сканер, микрофон, фото или видео камера.

Назначение устройства обработки это извлекать, интерпретировать и управлять выполнением команд сообщенных компьютеру. С хорошо сконструированным ЦП ты можешь выполнять высоко сложные задачи за очень короткое время. Память это системный компонент компьютера, где информация хранится. Существует 2 типа компьютерной памяти: RAM и ROM. Назначение устройства хранения это хранить команды и данные в относительно удобной форме и извлекать их, когда они нужны для обработки. Наиболее общепринятыми устройствами хранения являются: жесткий диск, дискета, различные виды компакт дисков и так называемые «флэш карты».

Назначение устройства вывода это показывать пользователю информацию, выданную компьютерной системой. Информация может быть выдана в твёрдой копии или в электронной форме. На пример устройство вывода может быть принтер, монитор, аудио системы и т.д. Модем представляет собой устройство связи, используемое для передачи данных с одного компьютера на другие через телефонные линии.
