Australia is lying south-east of Asia, between the Pacific and Indian oceans. It is the world’s smallest continent which is almost completely surrounded by oceans expanses. Its total are is 7,682,300 sq.km.

The continent of Australia is divided into four general into four general topographic regions: a low, sandy eastern coastal plain, the eastern highlands, the central plain, and the western plateau. Although Australia has a wide diversity of climatic conditions, the climate of Australia is generally warm and dry, with no extreme cold and little frost. It changes from comfortably mild in the south to hot in the central inferior and north.

The total population in 1986 was about 16mln people with the average population density of about 2 persons per sq.km. Most Australians are British or Irish ancestry. More than 99 % of the population speaks English.

The capital of Australia is Canberra. Australia has a federal parliamentary government. The Australian federation was formed on January 1, 1901, from six former British colonies, which thereupon became states. The Australian constitution combines the traditions of British parliamentary monarchy with important elements of the US federal system. Powers of the federal government are enumerated and limited. The government consists of the British sovereign and the Australian Parliament.

Australia is the world’s largest wool producer and one of the world’s largest wheat exporters. The main sources of foreign earnings are wool, food and minerals which also provide raw materials for home processing industry.

Russia

Russia occupies a large territory. It stretches almost 10 000 (ten thousand) kilometers from east to west and nearly 5 000 (five thousand) kilometers from north to south. It's population is 150 000 000 (one hundred and fifty) million people.

From spring till autumn the sun never sets over Russia: in Kaliningrad people see it sitting in the Baltic, while in Kamchatka it rises out of the Pacific Ocean at the some time. People in our country see the New Year in eleven times in one night.

If you begin to travel in the Far East by air and fly 8 000 (eight thousand) kilometers towards the west, you will land in Moscow on the same hour same day that you left the Far East.

It is a wonderful to see our country from the plane. One can hardly imagine a country more interesting to travelers around than Russia.

Siberia covers millions of square kilometers. You fly over mountains, endless forests, large and small rivers, railways, motorways. You leave behind the lights of young and small towns, plants and factories. Siberia is a region of untold riches.

Further West the Ural Mountains are the border between Asia and Europe. The Urals are rich in different minerals.

The country's European part covers the territory from Urals to the Baltic Sea. The largest cities of Russia are situated between the Black Sea in the south and the Black Sea in the north. There are no other countries in which the climate differs so much from one part to another. When it is still winter in northern regions of our country the first warm days arrive in the south. In central regions snow storms and cold are still in power, while in the south people begin to think of spring crops. In the same season nature looks different in different parts of our country. Russia is rich in oil, coal, iron, gold, silver and other minerals
