5.1 Introduction
The European guidelines for the quality of drinking and ground water specify threshold concentrations for several phytopharmaceutical compounds and pesticides. The sum of all pesticides must not exceed 0.5 (J-g/1 with no individual compound exceeding 0.1 (ig/1. To meet these requirements, a multi-residue analytical method of solid phase extraction followed by capillary gas chromato-graphy (CGC) on two capillary columns is described. The detection of halogen-, nitrogen- and phosphorus-containing compounds is achieved simultaneously by nitrogen phosphorus detection (NPD) and electron capture detection (ECD).
