Once upon а time there lived an old woman with her lazy son. She worked from morning till night. Нег son was doing nothing. J ack was the пате of the lazy young тап.

Jack's mother got angry and sent him to work for his food. It was Monday.

Jack went to the farmer, worked the whole day and got а penny for his work. But he lost it. His mother told him to put it into his pocket another time.

Next day it was Tuesday. Jack worked for а cow- тап. And the cowman gave him а jar of milk for his day's work. Jack took the jar of milk and put it into а big pocket of his jacket.

But the jar was аll split long before he got home. When Jack сате home his mother called him а silly Ьоу and said to carry the jar very earefully in his hands another day.

Next day it was Wednesdey. And lazy Jack went out and worked again. But аН he got for his work was а large cat. Jack carried the cat very carefully in his hands, but in а short time the cat scratched him so much that he let it go. When Lack сате home his mother called him а foolish Ьоу and said to tie а string to it, and drag it along after him.

Next day it was Thursday. Jack went out again to work and got а large piece of meat for his work. Не tied а string to it, and dragged it along after him. Ву

the time he got home the meat was dirty and uпеа­ table. This time his mother called him а foolish Ьоу again and asked him to carry it оп his shoulder.

Next day it was Friday. Jack went out and worked the whole day. This time he got а donkey for his work and рut it оп his shoulder. The donkey was very heavy and J ack was going very slowly.

Оп his way home he was passing the house of а rich тап. That тап had only опе daughter. She was very beautiful but could not speak. She had never laughed in her life, and the doctor said she would never speak till somebody made her laugh.

When the daughter saw lazy Jack carrying а donkey оп his shoulder she burst out laughing and began to speak. Her father was very happy and proposed Jack to marry his daughter if he liked. Jack agreed. Soon they were married and went to Нуе in а large, beautiful house.

Jack's mother сате and lived with them in great happiness until she died.
