For Friday, July 17:

  • Bring an interesting/special object from home that describes you in some way and prepare to describe it in class so that other students can guess what it is.

  • Bring a few photos (hard or soft copy) from any of your trips, prepare to show them to your classmates and tell about your travelling experiences.

  • Write a paragraph about your travel experience to some place: in the first sentence mention what experience/interesting incident you want to share in some place that you went to (it is the main idea of the paragraph), then give the details about your experience there, and in the last sentence restate the main idea of your paragraph. The paragraph should include minimum 7 sentences. Include the appropriate heading and use appropriate formatting (see above).

  • Read Chapters 3 and 4 in the book “The Scarlet Letter” by N. Hawthorne. While reading please underline and translate the new words (right in the book). In addition, please underline the right word based on the book content (please write down the sentences and your answers in your notebook, underline these sentences in the book):

  1. Hester doesn’t have any friends/money.

  2. Hester sells clothes/flowers to the townspeople.

  3. Pearl is a happy/sad child.

  4. The Governor thinks that Hester is a good/bad mother.

  5. Chillingworth/Dimmesdalewants the child to stay with Hester.

  6. John Wilson wants/does not want Chillingworth to find the child’s father.

  • Bring the course syllabus (please read it and prepare questions for the instructor if you have any).

  • Bring the English-Russian dictionary.

For Monday, July 22:

  • Listen to the story “A visitor to The Star by Chris Rose, then print and complete the two tasks (the audio story and tasks are in the Listening materials folder).

  • Complete, print and bring the Student Self-study Log. Please add an appropriate heading and type your answers below the questions. Be sincere and specific please!

  • Read Chapters 5-10 in the book “The Scarlet Letter” by N. Hawthorne. While reading please underline and translate the new words (right in the book). In addition, please do several exercises related to the content in these chapters (copy the questions on a separate Word documents and add your answers; print and bring this assignment to class; include a heading)

Exercise 1. Chapters 5-6. What happens first? Number the sentences below, 1-8.
