Summary

In this report a linguistic approach in study of political discourse is introduced. The author reviews numerous definitions of political discourse – from a wide understanding as a language of public sphere to a narrow one as a language of politicians. The author gives a detailed description of such linguistic methods as critical discourse analysis, descriptive, cognitive, quantitative methods. The author analyses recent important researches of political discourse. The analysis demonstrates a multidisciplinary character of researches. The author concludes that language affects political affairs, language influences behavior and attitudes, and language can shape, change and reverse opinions. Political discourse is powerful, and the power of language is a crucial form of political action.
